INDICATIONS
Dexametzazone is indicated for the local and systemic treatment of inflammatory, toxic, and infectious processes in combination with the antimicrobials of choice, enhancing their action by reducing inflammatory tissue reactions. Due to its anti-allergic properties, it is used in dermatitis, arthritis, urticaria, nonspecific pruritus, and bites from venomous animals.
DOSAGE
- Cattle (beef and dairy): 0.04–0.15 mg/kg/day IM or IV (1 mL/16.6–62.5 kg).
- Horses: 0.04 mg/kg/day IM or IV (1 mL/62.5 kg).
- Sheep and goats: 0.15 mg/kg/5 days IM (1 mL/16.6 kg during the last week of gestation).
- Dogs: 0.07–0.15 mg/kg/3–5 days IM or IV (1 mL/16.6–35.7 kg).
- Cats: 0.04–0.15 mg/kg/day IM (0.03–0.12 mL/2 kg).
ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION: Intramuscular and intravenous.
WARNINGS
- As with all corticosteroids, it may cause premature labor in late pregnancy as well as retained placenta.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- Withdrawal period: Cattle, sheep, and goats: zero days.
- Do not administer to horses or calves intended for human consumption.
- Store in a cool, dry place.
- Protect from direct sunlight.
- Dispose of by incineration.
